How to play Palabra

Palabra is a free daily Spanish word game: you get six tries to guess the five-letter word of the day. There is one word per day, the same for everyone, and it changes at midnight (local time). No download, no signup, no ads.

The rules

• Every guess must be a valid five-letter Spanish word.
• After each guess the tiles change colour: green — the letter is in exactly the right spot; yellow — the letter is in the word but in another position; grey — the letter is not in the word.
• Accents don't count. Type CAMION and it counts as CAMIÓN: on solving, we show the correctly accented form. That's the convention of Spanish word games.
• Ñ is a distinct letter with its own key. PEÑA and PENA are different words.
• If a letter appears twice in the word, it can be marked twice.

Strategy

• Open with words rich in vowels and frequent consonants: AIRES, CANTO or PERLA rule out a lot in a single try.
• On the second guess, try new letters instead of reusing grey ones — the first two guesses are about information, not about hitting the answer.
• Remember frequent Spanish endings: -AR, -ER, -IR in verbs; -OSA, -ADA, -ITO in derived forms. And don't forget plurals — the final S is treacherous.
• Your streak counts consecutive days played. You share with an emoji board that never reveals the word — brag without spoiling.
