Our take

GameKnot is the veteran of online correspondence chess — turn-based games where each move can take hours or days, played through the browser with no download. Running since the early 2000s, it wraps the slow format in a full community: teams, tournaments, tactics puzzles, annotated games and discussion boards. The free tier limits how many simultaneous games you can run; paid memberships lift the caps. The interface shows its age, but for play-a-move-at-lunch chess it remains a genuine option.

In one line: Correspondence pace — days per move, community tournaments, no download.
