Anichess is chess with a spell system layered on top — cast freeze, teleport or shield effects that bend classical rules — built by Animoca Brands in partnership with Chess.com, with five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen attached to its showcase events. It is free to play in a browser tab: daily puzzle challenges plus quick and ranked PvP matches. The Web3 layer is real but light-touch: Orbs of Power collectibles on Polygon unlock extra puzzles, and an on-chain M8 points system on Base rewards daily play. The project reports 340,000+ registered players and about 100,000 monthly actives. We list it without a pay claim: points and orbs are the game's reward mechanics, not an advertised real-money income, which is honestly rather refreshing.
